Your data leaves with you

You can always export your vault, notes, calendars, lists, contacts and budgets; see the terms for how access works after a plan ends. We'd rather keep you because Atrium is good than because leaving is hard.

What you can take out, and in what format

AppExportOpens in
NotesA zip of Markdown (.md) files in your folder structure, with attachmentsObsidian, any text editor, most notes apps
CalendarICS (.ics) filesGoogle Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and most calendar apps
VaultAn encrypted .atrium backup, sealed with a passphrase you choose — or an unencrypted CSV/JSON file. See importing and exporting your vaultThe encrypted backup: any Atrium account, with the passphrase. CSV/JSON: a spreadsheet, or another password manager's importer
ListsCSV: every item with its list, quantity, aisle or section, checked state, due date, priority, assignee and notesAny spreadsheet app
BudgetsCSV, for each budget: transactions (date, account, payee, category, amount, currency, memo, cleared), a monthly category summary, and bills and subscriptionsAny spreadsheet app, or another budgeting app's CSV importer
ContactsvCard (.vcf)Google Contacts, Apple Contacts, Outlook and most address books
Polls, invitations and formsPoll results as CSV or XLSX, guest lists as CSV, and form records as CSV, XLSX or PDFAny spreadsheet app

Notes, calendar, lists, contacts, budgets and unencrypted vault exports are decrypted on your device, so what you download is readable plaintext — store it carefully. The encrypted vault backup is the one exception: it's re-sealed on your device with the passphrase you choose, so the file itself stays unreadable without it.

When a plan ends

If a payment fails and isn't fixed within 24 hours, or a cancelled plan runs out, your account is suspended: you can renew, export your data (up to twice) or delete it, and it is permanently deleted after 30 days. A trial that ends without a subscription gets 1 day instead of 30. Export what you want to keep before then; the terms have the details.

No lock-in by design

  • Notes are ordinary Markdown with [[wikilinks]], the same format Obsidian uses.
  • Calendars import and export as ICS, the format every calendar app understands.
  • Lists and budgets export as plain CSV spreadsheets, made in your browser.
  • Vault items import from most other password managers and export as an encrypted backup or plain CSV/JSON — in either direction, any time, on every plan.
  • Deleting your account removes your encrypted data from our servers; billing records are kept as the law requires. See the privacy policy.
